About Us
TimeLine Theatre Company is a not-for-profit theater located in Chicago, Illinois, dedicated to presenting stories inspired by history that connect with today’s social and political issues. Our collaborative artistic team produces provocative theatre that engages, educates, entertains and enlightens.
Founded in 1997 by six graduates of The Theatre School at DePaul University, TimeLine’s 12 seasons have featured nearly 40 productions, including 6 world premieres and 10 Chicago premieres. Praised as a “must-see company” (Chicago Sun-Times) and a “fast-rising Chicago company” (The New York Times), TimeLine has been honored with 37 Non-Equity Jeff Awards, which signify excellence in Chicago theater, including the award for Outstanding Production in six of the past eight seasons.
TimeLine’s excellence in artistic programming is matched by a commitment to sound financial management. In 2006, we received the Alford-Axelson Award for Nonprofit Managerial Excellence of a small company — the first arts organization to receive the award. And in 2008 TimeLine received the Richard Goodman Strategic Planning Award in the Non-profit category from the Association for Strategic Planning.
The heart of TimeLine is our team of Company members, who shape the artistic vision and choose the programming for the organization. But the TimeLine family extends much further, including associate artists and welcoming other emerging and established artists to contribute to the company’s work.
TimeLine Theatre Company seeks to continue the extraordinary legacy of Chicago theater companies that started small, dreamed big and matured into prominent institutions that enrich the cultural landscape of the city. Aspiring to be a leader among these vital organizations, TimeLine continues to grow steadily — expanding artistic programs, building infrastructure and nurturing our Living History Education Program for high school students to bring our mission to a new generation.
